Biochips - A Global Update Of Market Trends & Opportunities
The biochip industry is in the early stages of growth and hence, not only promises potential but also is susceptible to vagaries of market forces. Competition, patent disputes, knowledge constraints (in terms of skilled employees, technical know-how) and financial strength might be a few impediments for firms engaged in this industry. A promising market arises from three factors – an aging population, third party reimbursement and a growing number of individuals suffering from common chronic diseases. Biochips would certainly evolve in terms of physical, technical characteristics, and with focus on miniaturization of assays, they would turn smaller and more powerful with each generation. The industry is characterized by both intense rivalry and equally well-developed web of alliances.
These and other market data and trends are presented in “Biochips: A Global Update of Market Trends & Opportunities” by BizAcumen, Inc. Our reports are designed to be most comprehensive in geographic coverage and vertical market analyses.

Applied Biosystems $70.1 Applied Biosystems, Inc. (formerly NASDAQ: ABIO) is the original name of a pioneer biotechnology company founded in 1981 in Foster City, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through the 1980s it operated independently and manufactured biochemicals and automated genetic engineering and diagnostic research instruments, including the principal brand of DNA sequencing machine used by the Human Genome Project consortium centers. Applied Biosystems close ties to the consortium project led to the idea for the founding of Celera Genomics (NYSE: CRA) in 1998 as one of several independent competitors to the consortium. In 1993 Applied Biosystems was delisted from the NASDAQ when it was acquired by the old company known then as PerkinElmer (formerly NYSE: PKN). Mathematical Methods Applied to Biosystems $100.37 A lot of new applications of main disciplines such as physics, mathematics, and engineering to the study of biological systems arise at an impressive rate. The mathematicallyoriented research of biosystems can lead to useful ways of understanding and transforming many naturallyocurring mechanisms in such systems. This book provides two different mathematical approaches for studying some processes at the intracellular and cell membrane level, as well as their application to other interesting problems in physics. The first part deals with factorization and supersymmetric methods, developed in the context of mathematicalphysics, as applied to the polymerization of tubulin dimers and the motion of domain walls in microtubules, which are one of the basic components of cell skeleton. The second part deals with the control of neuronal dynamics through synchronization in a minimal ensemble of two HodgkinHuxley neurons by using the nonlinear control theory. These methods may be especially useful to proffesionals in the fields of physics, mathematics, control theory, biology, and to anyone else who may be interested in interdisciplinary scientific investigations. Modelling, Analysis and Optimization of Biosystems $221.44 In general, several mathematical models can be designed in order to describe a biological or medical process and there is no unique criterion which model gives the best description. This book presents several of these models and shows applications of them to different biological and medical problems. The book shows that operations research expertise is necessary in respect to modeling, analysis and optimization of biosystems. Advanced Quantitative Microbiology for Foods and Biosystems $159.95 Presenting a novel view of the quantitative modeling of microbial growth and inactivation patterns in food, water, and biosystems, Advanced Quantitative Microbiology for Foods and Biosystems: Models for Predicting Growth and Inactivation describes new models for estimating microbial growth and survival. The author covers traditional and alternative models, thermal and non-thermal preservation, water disinfection, microbial dose response curves, interpretation of irregular count records, and how to estimate the frequencies of future outbursts. He focuses primarily on the mathematical forms of the proposed alternative models and on the rationale for their introduction as substitutes to those currently in use. The book provides examples of how some of the methods can be implemented to follow or predict microbial growth and inactivation patterns, in real time, with free programs posted on the web, written in MS Excel, and examples of how microbial survival parameters can be derived directly from non-isothermal inactivation data and then used to predict the efficacy of other non-isothermal heat treatments. Featuring numerous illustrations, equations, tables, and figures, the book elucidates a new approach that resolves several outstanding issues in microbial modeling and eliminates inconsistencies often found in current methods. |
